Categories and collections
Organize products into browsable categories and curated collections.
Categories and collections are two different ways to organize the catalog. Categories are the main browse structure; collections are curated groupings.
Categories
Categories live under Catalog → Categories. Shoppers use them to browse the storefront.
- Create a category with a name and an optional slug. If you leave the slug empty, it is generated from the name.
- Edit the name or slug at any time.
- Archive a category to hide it without deleting it.
- Restore an archived category, or permanently delete it.
- Bulk-select categories to archive or delete.
- Link products from the category detail view, or assign categories from the product page.
Deleting a category does not delete its products; it removes the association. Only the Owner role can permanently delete categories.
Collections
Collections live under Catalog → Collections. Use them for seasonal edits, featured sets, or any group that does not need to be a browse category.
- Create a collection with a name and optional slug.
- Set the collection type to Manual or Smart.
- Add a description and control whether the collection is active.
- Link products from the collection detail view.
- Unlink products without deleting them.
- Archive, restore, or permanently delete collections.
Collections can also carry billboards — the images used in the storefront homepage carousel. Upload a JPG or PNG up to 1 MB, add alt text, and drag the slides into order. Reordering and deleting billboards is available from the collection detail view.
A product can belong to multiple categories and collections. If a product is not visible on the storefront, check its product status and privacy first, then confirm that it is linked to an active category or collection.
Which one should I use?
| Use a category when… | Use a collection when… |
|---|---|
| Shoppers should browse it from the catalog | You are curating a themed or seasonal set |
| Products have a stable taxonomy | Membership changes frequently |
| You need a reliable catalog structure | You want to highlight products on the homepage |
